Pride at the HKCEC
Between 27 June and 1 July, the HKCEC hosted the biggest
single convention ever held in Hong Kong: the 88th Lions
Club International Convention 2005 (LCI Convention).
With around 22,000 Lions members along with friends
and families in town, arriving from over 100 countries
and regions, the Centre was abuzz. This year's programme
was packed as usual with every kind of event, from workshops
and seminars to banquets and celebration parties. One
of its highlights was the 'Parade of Nations', featuring
marching bands and colourful floats peopled by 9,000
Lions from around the world. Many dressed in native
costume, emphasising the cultural diversity that is
one of the most important ingredients of the Lions story.
It's been a while since the Lions Convention was last
in Hong Kong (13 years to be precise), and both returning
guests and new visitors were determined to make the
most of their time here. According to Joe Wrobrewski,
Chairman of the LCI Convention Committee, their visit
was made even better by the service they enjoyed at
the HKCEC. "The venue and its staff performed way
beyond the expectations of our delegates and convention
personnel." he said. "The service levels were
exceptional, something that's always a crucial ingredient
in guaranteeing the success of this event." In
sum, everyone agreed the 88th LCI convention went off
with a roar!
