Also on the Centre's summer renovation list was
an ambitious kitchen renovation. From 7 July the
HKCEC kitchen was given a number of new features,
all of which were designed to meet stringent HCCAP
requirements. For example, non-slip flooring was
laid down to reduce the risk of accidents on wet
or greasy floors, the entrance door was replaced
with one that automatically opens and closes, and
a separate room was built specially for BBQ roasting.
The dishwashing machine was given a separate exhaust
outlet to improve ventilation, and electric power
sockets were added to the tops of movable tables
to allow a greater use of electrical equipment throughout
the kitchen. During the renovations, old and outdated
equipment was also replaced, so now the new-look
kitchen boasts improved food safety and sanitation,
and faster service. The entire package of upgrading
was completed by 10 September, resulting in a truly
superior kitchen environment.
