If proof was
ever needed that Australians know how to have a good time, the Australian
Association Summer Ball provided it in spades. Held at the HKCEC
on 22 May, the dance floor was still packed at 2am the next morning
as around 700 guests transformed the Convention Hall into practically
another state of Australia. Videos of famous scenes of Australian
life were projected onto huge screens in the ballroom, Australian
Wirra Wirra wine and Crown Lager beer flowed copiously, and colourfully
costumed guests enjoyed the great food and stunning table decorations
while dipping into a giant bowl of Australian lollies. All that
was missing was the barbie and thongs, but Banana Pavlova was on
the menu and there was enough iconic Australiana around to make
up for that. The Summer Ball celebrated the Australian Association's
50th anniversary.
