The next few years look set to pose some major and exciting challenges for the HKCEC. New competition is on the horizon, and that means increasing choice for exhibition customers. It's therefore essential that we ensure the Centre's services and facilities consistently remain the very best available. At the same time, we are confident that government approval for the expansion of Halls 1 and 2 will soon be obtained, following which the Centre will go through a period of major planning and construction. Faced with these twin challenges, the HKCEC has enhanced its senior management structure. Our aim in doing this is to make sure the complex changes ahead are handled with the very highest levels of efficiency, attention to detail, and security.

The Centre is operated by Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited (HML). As part of the reorganisation, HML has appointed a second Deputy Managing Director, Mr David Ieong, who now works alongside existing Deputy Managing Director Miss Joanne Davis. Mr Ieong, who moves up after six years as the HKCEC's Director of F&B, is specifically involved in directing day-to-day operations including event planning, security and access. By doubling our Deputy Managing Director personnel, we are aiming to improve operational efficiency and raise the levels of service we can offer our customers.

With David Ieong's promotion from the Centre's F&B operations, Maurice Kong has been appointed our new Director of F&B. Mr Kong has been at the HKCEC since 2002, and before that spent several years working for Hyatt Hotels and the Mandarin Oriental Group. He is renowned for his creativity and his commitment to ongoing improvement.

HML has also enhanced its security operations with the appointment of a new Security and Venue Operations Manager, Mr Eden Lui. Mr Lui is a veteran of the HKCEC with 11 years service, and will take charge of all safety and security issues relating to events at the Centre, overseeing the Centre's team of full-time General Security staff. Another related management improvement has been the appointment by General Security of a new senior security management representative. He is Mr Edmund Leung, with over 20 years experience in the security industry, including 18 years with the ICAC.
