Back
in December 2004, representatives of the world tourism
and travel industry descended on Barbados in the West
Indies for the 11th World Travel Awards, an event sometimes
describes as the 'Oscars' of the travel industry. It's
a great honour to win any of the range of awards handed
out at this event, because nominees are all selected based
on votes from 80,000 travel agencies and 150,000 frontline
agents worldwide. That means that the awards really do
reflect the experience and opinions of a huge number of
industry professionals, people who possess both a lot
of knowledge and a lot of choice.
What are we getting at? Yes, the HKCEC picked up an
award at this event, when it was named 'Asia's Leading
Conference Centre' for the third year running. There
are plenty of conference centres in Asia, and good ones
too, so we think that our achievement in gaining this
prestigious award says a lot about the standards that
we set here and about our constant commitment to improvement.
Changing tack a little, the Centre received another
repeat award recently when it picked up the CIM Accolade
Award, the second time it has obtained this award
since 1997. It's awarded by the Australian Convention
and Incentive Marketing magazine based on readers' votes.
Our particular award came in the Venue category, indicating
the magazines assessment of the extremely high quality
of the Centre as a convention and conference facility.
