Since July visitors have begun to see the first visible signs
of our exciting expansion project, with hoarding being erected
in places inside the Centre and construction starting to take
place both inside and out. By the time it is finished in early
2009, the project will have added an extra 19,400 square metres
of exhibition space to Halls 1, 2 and 3, as shown in the illustration.
Some areas of the Centre have already been closed for construction,
and other areas will be closed in coming months. We are working
hard to minimise any impact on day-to-day events. Event organisers
will be notified well in advance about any closures, and we
will continue to work closely with all our clients at the
event planning stage, jointly making co-ordinated plans to
ensure events run as smoothly as possible.
Apart from a need to relocate our Information Counter to
a spot a few metres away from its original location, construction
work so far has not caused any significant changes.
Atriums 2 and 3 will be closed from mid March 2007 until
the expansion is completed. Atrium 1 will remain in use until
end of May 2007 when Hall 1 Concourse will be constructed
for access until the project is complete. During expansion
project, some access routes will be changed and certain escalators
will be unavailable at times. All along, we will be working
to make sure that all changed access routes are clearly signposted,
easy to find, and comfortable to use: and of course, our staff
are always ready to provide assistance.
The Hong Kong Trade Development Council is the driver
of the expansion project, and it has set up a website www.tdctrade.com/CECexpansion
on which details of the expansion will be posted and regularly
updated.
