Getting around as We Expand

We're entering another stage of the HKCEC expansion that involves revising many of the access routes around the Centre, and we've been working hard to make sure users and visitors are aware of the alterations. HKCEC staff members are standing by to help clients plan and co-ordinate their events so as to minimise inconvenience.

The first wave of route changes began on 11 March, when Atriums 2 and 3 and the escalators to and from the two Atriums were closed until the expansion project is completed. That will be followed by the closure of Atrium 1 on 28 May. From 28 May onward, the access route between the Harbour Road and Expo Drive entrances will run via the Hall 1 Concourse, which will be attractively decorated, well-lit and air conditioned.

Work to integrate the expanded space with the existing structure will begin in May, with scaffolding being erected against the windows of the HKCEC at the Harbour Road end.

During the expansion period, some escalators will be out of service for designated periods. Clear direction-finding signs will be put in place to ensure guests have no problems finding their venues.

Given event logistics and operational and co-ordination issues, it's a huge challenge for the HKCEC to have construction going on at the same time as multiple events. We are thankful for the understanding and co-operation shown by our clients and users, who will ultimately benefit from the additional 19,400 square metre space once the expansion is completed in early 2009. To meet this challenge, we are drawing on two key qualities encapsulated in our mission: flexibility and innovation!
