For
the seventh consecutive year, HKCEC has scooped "Best Overseas
Centre" in the meetings category of the Meetings and Incentive
Travel Industry Awards 2000 organised by Meetings & Incentive
Travel. In another coup, readers of Beyond Borders, planners
of non-USA meetings and events, ranked us as among the world's
"Ten Best International Convention and Exhibition Centres" in
the magazine's 2nd annual Global Achievement Awards. As
Cliff Wallace, HKCEC's Managing Director, told Exhibition News,
"Such awards recognise our product quality, standard of service,
level of professionalism, and value-added benefits. They represent
the considered opinion of the industry executives and specialists
worldwide who read these two influential magazines." |

Exhibition
industry: strong lever for Hong Kong's economic growth
|
More great
value from HKCEC! In addition to continuing through 2001 all
the popular incentives introduced early in 1999, including
the freeze in hiring rates, we are offering a 40% special
incentive rental discount for the entire month of June 2001.
There is also a new range of meeting packages to enhance the
value customers receive when they rent our 52 meeting rooms.
These include bundling room rental with food and beverage
on a per delegate basis; a choice of five specific packages
with equipment, meals and refreshments; and incentive packages
for users contracting major venues or organising a major event.

HKCEC is proud to be at the heart of Hong Kong's rapid exit
from the regional economic doldrums. The first of two recent
surveys of the Hong Kong exhibition scene commissioned by
the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Organisers' and Suppliers'
Association (HKECOSA) confirmed 1999 as a year of solid all
round growth. The number of exhibiting companies was up 2.5%
and net exhibition space occupied increased 5%. And then a
survey in August showed that in 1999 the exhibition industry
made a net contribution of HK$7.8 billion to the Hong Kong
economy - up 41% since 1996. Each employee generated HK$1
million for the industry itself and HK$4.8 million for the
economy at large - up 41% from 1996. The average GDP per worker
for all industries is HK$400,000.

Riding
high on the new wave of wireless |
The HKCEC
was delighted to welcome yet again (11-16 June 2000) the Annual
CDMA World Congress, now in its fifth edition, co-hosted by
the CDMA Development Group (CDG) and the Institute for International
Research. It attracted 1,100 quality attendees and brought
together the world's leading wireless Internet pioneers. As
they reminded delegates, "The Future of Wireless is Now".
We are proud to be moving forward with this valued client.

Tracking
back into the past, we noted the long and distinguished history
of the Union des Foires Internationales (UFI), which holds
its 67th Congress at HKCEC from 31 October to 3 November 2000.
We welcome this prestigious gathering of major global trade
fair organisers to Hong Kong for the first time. Yet another
organisation with close ties to our industry is the International
Meetings Association (ICCA), which will meet for its general
assembly and congress later in November.
